Step-by-step
Connect Clockify
Set up Clockify as the time-tracking provider in TimeToBill.
Here you connect Clockify to TimeToBill. You enter one API key. After that, TimeToBill can fetch your hours from Clockify.
What you need
- A Clockify account with entries you want to invoice.
- An active TimeToBill license.
- Access to the email address you used to buy TimeToBill, for download links or your management link.
Request your download links or management link through Support if TimeToBill is not installed yet.
Step 1 - Get your Clockify API key
- Open Clockify.
- Open Profile settings.
- Go to Preferences and open the Advanced tab.
- Click Manage API keys.
- Click Generate new, give the key a clear name, and click Generate.
- Copy the key.
Copy the key immediately. Clockify does not show a new API key again later.
You only need to paste the API key. TimeToBill finds your account and workspaces when you test the connection.
Step 2 - Connect Clockify in TimeToBill
- Open TimeToBill.
- Go to Settings -> Providers.
- Choose Clockify as the time tracker.
- Paste the Clockify API key.
- Test the connection.
- Save the settings.
During the connection test, TimeToBill looks up the available workspaces. If there is one workspace, the app selects it automatically. If there are multiple workspaces, choose the right workspace by name in TimeToBill.
Existing API credentials keep working. Test the connection again if TimeToBill asks to update the connection details.
The keys are stored in your operating system's secure storage. TimeToBill stores your settings and billing status in a local TimeToBill file (.ttb) on your computer. API keys are not stored in that file.
Step 3 - Fetch entries
- Choose a period.
- Click Fetch entries.
- Check that the right clients, projects, dates, descriptions, and duration are visible.
- Use filters if you only want to invoice part of the entries.
TimeToBill shows entries within the selected period that are marked as billable in Clockify.
Track billed entries
After creating an invoice, TimeToBill stores the billing status in your local TimeToBill file. You can also let the app write a tag back to Clockify, so the status is visible there too.
If you want to reduce API calls, you can turn tag write-back off.
