API keys
Where API keys and API tokens are stored and how TimeToBill uses them for integrations.
TimeToBill uses API keys or API tokens to connect to your time tracker and invoicing software. You create those credentials yourself with the service you connect.
Required credentials
That depends on your integrations. In most cases, you need credentials for:
- your time-tracking software;
- your invoicing or accounting software.
Credential storage
TimeToBill stores API keys and API tokens in your operating system's secure storage.
TimeToBill stores your settings and billing status in a local file on your computer. That file is called a TimeToBill file, or .ttb file. API keys and API tokens are not stored in that file.
Details TimeToBill adds
After a connection test, TimeToBill adds the details needed to use the integration. You do not need to copy IDs from URLs or settings in addition to your API key or API token.
Not in the TimeToBill file
You can back up, move, or store your TimeToBill file in a cloud folder. API keys and API tokens do not belong in that file.
By storing credentials separately, you can move the TimeToBill file more easily without moving access keys with it.
Use by TimeToBill
TimeToBill uses your credentials when the app:
- fetches entries;
- checks clients, projects, or rates;
- creates a draft invoice;
- optionally writes a tag back to your time tracker.
Change or revoke a key
If you want to replace a key or token, create a new one with the provider and paste it into TimeToBill.
If you want to revoke access, delete or deactivate the key with the provider itself.
Fixed-IP option
If you use the fixed-IP option for an invoicing connection, that connection uses TimeToBill infrastructure for the fixed IP address. Also check the Privacy Statement and the page about connecting invoicing software.
