Write back tags

Keep billing status locally or also write it back as a tag in your time tracker.

Updated: 2026-04-25 Nederlandse versie

TimeToBill stores your settings and billing status in a local file on your computer. That file is called a TimeToBill file, or .ttb file.

TimeToBill stores which entries have already been used for an invoice in that file. If you want, the app can also add a tag in your time tracker.

Track locally

Billing status is stored in your TimeToBill file. This lets TimeToBill know which entries have already been used, even if you do not write a tag back to your time-tracking software.

This is the quietest option and uses fewer API calls.

Write back a tag

If tag write-back is enabled, TimeToBill adds a tag to the used entries in your time tracker after creating an invoice.

Enable this if you also want to see the status in your time-tracking software.

Turn tag write-back off

Turn tag write-back off if:

  • you want to reduce API calls;
  • your time tracker already uses its own tags;
  • you do not want TimeToBill to change anything in your time tracker;
  • you only need local billing status.

API keys

The action is performed from your own computer with the API key you configured. The key is stored in your operating system's secure storage.
